Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 20, 2026
Benchmarq is built to answer one question — "am I normal?" — without ever knowing who you are. No accounts, no names, and answers that stay anonymous. This policy explains exactly what that means.
Who we are
Benchmarq is operated by Clearview Systems LLC ("we", "us"), the data controller for the information described here. You can reach us at hello@benchmarq.life.
The short version
- There are no accounts. Your identity is an anonymous ID created on your device.
- We collect the answers you tap and when you tapped them — nothing else you type, because there is nothing to type.
- Your answers only ever appear inside aggregate totals. No one, including us, is shown an individual person's answer.
- A few days after each question closes, the individual answer records are permanently deleted for everyone. Only anonymous totals remain.
- We don't sell your personal information, and your individual answers are never used to target advertising.
What we collect
- An anonymous identifier. On first launch, the app creates an anonymous identity through our authentication provider (Supabase). It is a random ID tied to your app installation. It is not your name, email, phone number, or any account, and it is not linked to your identity.
- Your answer selections and their timestamps. When you answer a question, we record which option you chose and when. Answers are multiple-choice or yes/no taps; the app has no free-text fields, so you never send us written content. Some questions touch sensitive topics (for example money, alcohol, betting, medications, therapy, or mood); your response is a bucket choice, stored the same anonymous way as any other.
- Technical connection data. Like any internet service, our hosting provider processes your device's IP address transiently to deliver responses and protect against abuse. We do not use it to build a profile of you.
We do not collect names, emails, phone numbers, passwords, contacts, or precise location. Advertising is covered separately below.
How we use it
We use your answers to compute the aggregate distribution for each question — the histogram that shows how everyone answered — so you can see where you land, and to produce anonymized, aggregate statistics about how people respond. Your individual response is never displayed on its own to you or anyone else, and is never used to target advertising; it only ever contributes to a count.
What we never do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not display, export, or otherwise reveal any individual person's answers.
- We do not use your individual answers to target advertising.
Advertising
Benchmarq does not currently show ads or use advertising or tracking SDKs. We may introduce advertising in the future to support the app. If we do, we will update this policy before it takes effect, describe what it involves and what data (if any) is shared with advertising partners, and provide the notices and choices the law requires — including, under California's CCPA/CPRA, a way to opt out of any "sale" or "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising, and on iOS the App Tracking Transparency prompt if any tracking is involved. Even then, your individual answers will not be used to target ads.
Who processes your data
We keep the vendor list short:
- Supabase — our backend and database, which stores answers and computes the aggregate totals. Data is hosted in the United States (US West).
- Expo — the framework and build tooling used to make the app. Notifications are generated on your device; we do not operate a push server.
Where your data is held, and international transfers
Our backend is hosted in the United States. If you use Benchmarq from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or elsewhere outside the US, your anonymous answer data is transferred to and processed in the United States. We rely on appropriate safeguards, including our processor's standard contractual clauses, for these transfers.
How long we keep it
Individual answer records are short-lived. While a question is open (and briefly after it closes to allow for time-zone differences), your answer row exists so the totals stay accurate and so you can change or withdraw it. A few days after a question closes, an automated job permanently deletes the individual answer rows. What remains is only the anonymous aggregate count for that question, which cannot be traced back to any device or person.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your data at any time. In the app's About tab, "Delete my data" removes your answer records, signs out your anonymous identity, and pulls your answers out of any results that are still open.
- Access and other rights. Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, or erase your data, and to object to or restrict processing. Because we hold no information that identifies you, the practical route for most requests is the in-app deletion above; for anything else, email hello@benchmarq.life and we will help. We do not discriminate against you for exercising any right.
Note: once a question's individual records have been deleted on our normal schedule, we can no longer isolate or return a past answer, because it no longer exists as a separate record.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, Benchmarq uses your device's local notifications (for example, a reminder to protect your streak). These are scheduled on your device; we do not send marketing messages and do not operate a remote push service.
Children
Benchmarq is not directed to children. It is not intended for anyone under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13 (or under the applicable minimum age in your country, which in parts of the EU/UK is 13 to 16). If you believe a child has used the app, contact us and we will address it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the app handles data, we will update this page and its "last updated" date, and reflect any material change in the app. New data practices (for example, if advertising or community features are ever added) will be disclosed before they take effect.
